Featured artist at SXSW 2011: Rah Digga

By Kane Tillotson

Not all female rappers sound like Blondie. Rah Digga from the Flipmode Squad has been putting it down since 1997.  She was in Flipmode Squad for ten years until starting her solo career.  The first lady of Flipmode has 2 albums out, Dirty Harriet (2000) and Classic (2010).  She has excellent flow and not just by female rapper standards.  In 2002 and 2004, BET nominated her as the best female hip hop artist.  If Method Man and Ice Cube had a half-sister it would be Rah Digga.

Rah Digga’s new album, Classic, was produced entirely by Nottz.  Rah Digga proved wth Classic that she is here to stay. Ten years after Dirty Harriet,  Classic is the album that proves that she is more than a washed up rapper trying to earn a couple dimes.  Be sure to pick up this album, and you should especially be sure to catch her out at South By Southwest!
